There is a rich heritage of chemical industries in the Yorkshire and Humber region, providing an extremely well established and modern infrastructure that is a benefit to existing industry as well as 14% of all new chemical businesses that the region attracts. - Strong service offering with an engineering contractor workforce of over 3,000

- Access to over 32 countries and 200 million customers worldwide via the Humber ports and their specialist facilities
- The Humber is home to the UK's busiest ports complex, handling over 80 million tonnes of cargo per year, 14% of this trade is from the chemical industries
- Yorkshire and Humber's chemicals industry has an annual turnover of over £8 billion
- Sheffield, Leeds and York have been identified by the RSC as one of the UK's major clusters of chemical science spin outs
