Fusion IP invests in University of Sheffield company - 28/09/08
Intellectual property (IP) commercialisation company Fusion IP has invested £125,000 in Phase Focus, a spin-out company from the University of Sheffield.
The firm is developing 'lensless' optical electron and x-ray microscope technology, with further investment coming from the Riding Early Growth Investment Company Viking Fund and the White Rose Technology Seedcorn Fund.
Professor John Rodenburg, Phase Focus's chief scientific officer and developer of the technology, said: "We are delighted with the progress that has already been made on the development of a prototype 'lensless' optical microscope."
The technology has the potential to provide high definition images for microscopists and could also extend into applications in radar, ultra-violet, infra-red and terahertz imaging, he explained.
Fusion IP will have a 59.7 per cent shareholding, on an undiluted basis, in Phase Focus.
Through an exclusive partnership with the University of Sheffield, Fusion IP invests in science, helping turn research into business across fields such as drugs, alternative energy and engineering.
