Leeds surgical devices firm confident for long-term future - 28/09/08

Leeds-based Surgical Innovations is confident about future growth, despite a drop in pre-tax profits.

Finance director Graham Bowland says the transfer of the surgical devices designer and manufacturer's activities from five sites to one is "putting the innovation back" into the firm.

Surgical Innovations now employs more product designers than before and is confident about facing the challenges ahead, he states.

"It has given us the opportunity and efficiency to go forward in the building now and the investment we've made in this place is phenomenal," Mr Bowland comments.

He explains that the company has seen encouraging hospital evaluations of its YelloPort Plus product, which helps access to the abdomen for operations, in the US.

Furthermore, Surgical Innovations has also established a clinical advisory board and, through its affiliation with universities and surgeons, will contribute towards the development of next generation medical devices.

Last week the South Yorkshire Investment Fund announced that there is still nearly £10 million available in potential funding for companies in South Yorkshire.
