Global engineering firm to return to Sheffield - 29/02/08

A global engineering firm which began its life in Sheffield has announced plans to return to the steel city.

Dormer Tools, which is now part of the Swedish-based Sandvik Group, is relocating from Worksop to set up a multi-million pound base at the advanced manufacturing park (AMP) on the boundary between Sheffield and Rotherham.

Chief executive of Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, Nigel Tomlinson, said that Dormer Tools' return to Sheffield was "great news for the city region".

"Dormer Tools is a true success story, having grown from a traditional Sheffield company to an international brand," he said.

"Its relocation to the AMP is a sign that the new development is set to be one of the most exciting areas for business growth in South Yorkshire."

Dormer Tools began life in Sheffield back in 1913 and now has operations in more than 40 countries world-wide, employing around 1,300 people.

In related news, Leeds Legal welcomed a team of eight Italian legal delegates into the city this week in a bid to improve trade relations in this sector between Yorkshire and Italy.
