Restaurant searches for local 'food heroes' - 22/01/08

A Yorkshire restaurant has launched an initiative to search for the region's "food heroes".

Rudding Park's restaurant staff will be sent out into the countryside to meet local farmers as part of the campaign which will begin in March this year.

The Clocktower restaurant, located at the park, is already running a "Yorkshire Selection" project which features a range of dishes using local food provenance in a bid to bring attention to the issue of where ingredients have been sourced to the fore.

Its new year-long campaign will include a daily menu offering a choice of four starters, main courses and puddings, each featuring a principle ingredient sourced in Yorkshire within a 100 mile radius of the park.

The entire restaurant team will visit local suppliers in situ to develop an "in-depth" knowledge of the ingredients and farming processes, which will be passed on to diners.

Each month the menu will focus on a new food hero, with dishes served that have an emphasis on simply prepared dishes that showcase the ingredients to their best effect.
