Drax invests in future - 07/09/07
Drax group, owners of the power station complex near Selby yesterday released results for the six month period which ended on June 30th.
The company has seen gross profit grow compared to the same period last year, with the figure now standing at £382 million.
As well as releasing financial results, the company has also announced plans for investment in the region in order to improve sustainability, with scheduled improvements to facilities, including turbine replacements to take place over the coming months.
Commenting on the move, chief executive of the firm Dorothy Thompson said: "We are very pleased to announce that we have made an early start on our turbines upgrade project and are installing this month our first high pressure turbine module."
She added that speeding up the improvement process would "bring early benefits" as well as energy efficiency improvements and carbon reductions.
The firm said it would spend the rest of the year preparing for the Large Combustion Plant Directive, a new government directive aimed at improving the efficiency of the power generation industry in the UK.
