Sheffield medical firm awarded multi-million Saudi tender - 22/09/2008

The Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health has awarded a multi-million pound share of a major tender to a Sheffield company with over 120 years of excellence in precision surgical engineering.
The tender sees massive investment in the healthcare facilities across the whole of Saudi and Downs Surgical has been selected as a key provider of general surgical instruments and instruments for ear, nose and throat surgery.
Downs Surgical is just one of the leading healthcare companies based in Yorkshire & Humber which help the region remain at the forefront of the healthcare sector. The company offers an extensive range of surgical instruments, from general surgery to obstetrics and gynaecology and manufactures total hip replacement systems.
The award further strengthens Downs Surgical’s role in the Saudi Arabia healthcare market – a position already firmly established as a result of key activity, including appointing the leading distributor Al Hammad Medical Services, based in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in late 2006.
Steve Spurgin, international business manager at Downs Surgical, said: “Following months of negotiation and meetings we are delighted to have won part of the Saudi Arabia Ministry of Health tender. The Middle East has brought us great export success and this is expected to accelerate even more this year thanks to this news.”
