Proctor and Gamble enters agreement with Yorkshire research organisation - 24/08/2008

The world’s largest consumer goods company, Proctor & Gamble, has entered into a joint agreement with Yorkshire-based Syntopix, a speciality pharmaceutical research and development organisation which focuses on dermatological conditions.
Under the agreement, Syntopix’ antimicrobial technology will be investigated with the aim of improving one of P&G’s major consumer healthcare brands.
Procter & Gamble, which operates in 80 countries worldwide, will have the opportunity to commercialise the Syntopix technology developed under the joint development agreement.
Speaking about the agreement, Dr Stephen Jones, Sytopix’ CEO commented: “We believe that Syntopix’ antimicrobial technology has the potential to improve the effectiveness of consumer healthcare brands and it is particularly pleasing to sign this agreement with a company such as Procter & Gamble.
“This agreement validates our strategy of broadening the number of potential markets available to the antimicrobial expertise of Syntopix to include consumer healthcare, as well as the over the counter and prescription markets associated with treating dermatological conditions.”
Syntopix was founded in 2003 as a spin-out from the University of Leeds. It is just one of a number of such companies that have been launched within Yorkshire as a result of the strong commercially-minded research base in the Region’s universities.
