World-leading payment provider boosts expansion from region - 07/07/2008

One of the world’s largest providers of outsourced payment services, based in Columbus, USA, is continuing to expand operations at its Yorkshire based European headquarters.
TSYS – which has clients in 75 countries – provides secure payment processing services for financial institutions that issue debit, credit, store cards, pre-paid, gift cards and loyalty programs and services for merchants who accept cards for payment. The company launched its European operations in 2001 and has since expanded rapidly. Its base in Yorkshire is at the heart of the fastest growing digital sector in the UK outside of London, which boasts 13,000 electronics, ICT and media companies.
TSYS intends to recruit an additional 75 employees at its York headquarters and 23 at its state-of-the-art data centre in Knaresborough during 2008 in order to meet the rapidly growing demand for the company’s services.
Speaking about why the company chose to base its European headquarters in York, Andrea Steadman, senior director of human resources for global services commented: “The high concentration of financial services and high tech industries in the York area makes it a great location for a company such as TSYS. Although York has a relatively small population, 1.5 million people live within a 45 minute drive of our York office, which means we have access to a large pool of potential employees with specialist skills.
“There is a large population of graduates from the universities in the region, meaning the pool of highly qualified and specialist individuals in the local workforce is constantly being topped up. Where necessary we have also had success relocating staff to York and North Yorkshire thanks to the high quality housing, good schools and the fact that it is a great place to live.
