Royal honour for steel giant boss

The chief executive of Sheffield Forgemasters International – the world’s largest independently owned forgemaster – has been awarded a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.

The Honours recognise Dr Graham Honeyman for his work in preserving and developing the specialist, heavy steelmaking and engineering industry in Sheffield – a city known internationally for its expertise in high precision engineering, metals production and high quality manufacturing.

Dr Honeyman was influential in the turnaround of the 200-year-old engineering company which was hours from complete closure three years ago. Today, Forgemasters has a turnover in excess of £100m, a full order book worth more than £120m and influential contracts with European, Chinese and Indian companies. It continues to supply an increasing global demand for crucial, high quality engineered products to key industries such as defence, oil and gas exploration, power generation, marine and construction.

Forgemasters specialises in a broad range of heavy forged and cast steel products as well as supplying ingot and bar. It is one of the global companies which help to cement Yorkshire’s position as a world leader in the production of metals and alloys.
