Our Successes
Yorkshire and Humber has seen a steady growth of both foreign and UK investment from a diverse range of businesses. Read about just some successes that other industry leaders have enjoyed from their time in the region.
Boeing 787 Dreamliner
A multi million pound partnership between the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre (AMRC) in Sheffield and Boeing, the world's biggest aerospace company is a clear example of investing in Yorkshire can benefit companies.
Boeing were looking to reduce the weight of the landing gear components on the new 787 Dreamliner whilst crucially retaining the strength and durability. Titanium was the preferred material and AMRC engineers worked with Messier-Dowty to help reduce the machining of the titanium 5553 components by a factor of 18, and reduce their tooling costs by 30 percent. As a direct result of this, Messier-Dowty became the first British company to win a contract to supply the entire landing gear for a Boeing aircraft.
Sir Michael Jenkins, Former President, Boeing UK has said that "the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre at the University of Sheffield is a tangible example of the knowledge economy in action, working together with universities and organisations, enabling them to exploit new technologies and deliver new aerospace solutions."
Mary Goetz, the Director of Industrial Participation for Boeing agrees and adds "The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre technology assistance has already grown regional revenue by £55m in the last two years, we expect CAMTEC to be just as valuable."
The Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre is base at Rotherham's Advanced Manufacturing Park.
